1. Find the equation of the line seen on the graph below. Note that the line of the equation passes through the intersections of the grid lines.
y = - x 2 + 8

Some options:
   x   y
 -10  13
   0   8
   6   5

slope -0.50
intercept 8.00

2. On the same graph above, sketch the equation: y = x 3 - 6

3. Solve the following equation for x: 17 x + 19 = x 3 - 6

x = −1.5

4. Six months ago crude oil was $80 a barrel. Today crude oil is selling for as much as $130 a barrel. What is the percentage increase in the price of oil? Increase = 0.625 or 62.5%

5. The price per gallon that drivers pay for gasoline is based on the price of oil pumped from the ground six months ago. Crude oil is used to make gasoline. The rise in the price of crude oil will affect gas prices six months later. The current price of gasoline on Pohnpei is $5.66 a gallon. Based on the percentage increase you calculated in number four, what will the price of gasoline be on Pohnpei in six months? 9.1975 or $9.20.

6. Recreate the arrangement seen below using SVG. Get the relative arrangement of the rectangles to each other correct, do not worry as much about the scale (the overall size). Helpful hint: If you have only three squares (rect), then copy one rect line and paste it to make a fourth a rect line!

Three in row

One possible solution:

 <rect x="100" y="15" width="15" height="15" />
 <rect x="15" y="100" width="15" height="15" />
 <rect x="185" y="100" width="15" height="15" />
 <rect x="100" y="185" width="15" height="15" />
