Course Objectives:

 

The goal of this course is to improve students’ research, expository writing, and critical thinking skills.  The course will provide the students with the basic skills necessary to write research-supported papers in the humanities and sciences.

 

Textbook:            Bookmarks, A Guide to Research and Writing, Ruszkiewicz/Walker

 

Class Attendance:

 

Students who are absent for more than four sessions can be automatically dropped from the course.  A total of four includes both excused and unexcused absences.

 

If you come more than ten minutes late to class you can be marked absent for half the class.  If you come more than twenty minutes late, you can be marked absent for the whole class.

                                    Mid-term Paper                   20%

                                    Attendance/Participation          20%

                                    Final Paper                           40%

 

 

                                    A=90—100

                                    B=80—89

                                    C=70—79

                                    D=60—69

                                    F=Below 60

 

 

Course Work:

 

You will be expected to turn in Outlines and Rough Drafts for each of your written assignments and they will be counted towards your overall grade.  Every student is expected to come to class prepared and ready to participate.  Turn in your assignments on time.  Late papers will be marked down.
