I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
ESLISCO95 Science for ESL is a science
review course to help prepare you for future college science courses by
updating ENGLISH science vocabulary and science concepts you may or may not
have learned in previous education experiences.
Topics touched on in SC095 will include science skills such as
observation, measurement of temperature, length, volume, and mass/weight,
classification and naming, and microscope use. Scientific Method, Biology,
Chemistry and Physics and Earth Science. Major topics such as Plants and
Animals, Cells, Human Reproduction, Family Planning and Sexually-Transmitted
Disease, Genetics, Matter, Chemical and Physical reactions, Work, Plate
Tectonics, Island formation and Weather will be included.
II. EVALUATION Grades will consist of
20% Vocabulary and Science
concept quizzes and topic tests,
40% Assignments including lab
reports, Classroom activity assignments, Binder organization and Homework
assignments,
30% Midterm and Final Exam
and
10% Attendance and
Participation Grade
Your Grade is calculated
based on Total Points earned divided by Total Points Possible for each graded
assignment, quiz or exam. Late assignments/quiz makeup have 10% grade penalty.
No Midterm or Final Makeup without PRIOR consent.
A 89.5 -100% B 79.5 - 89.5% C 69.5 - 79.5% D 59.5 - 69.5% F 59.5% and below

This semester the book has
not arrived, so I will make photocopies of the actual exercises we use and
Handouts needed. You must store them in an orderly fashion!

V. SUPPLIES Required
YOU MUST HAVE A BINDER TO KEEP YOUR PHOTO COPIES and HANDOUTS IN
ORDER. A grade will be given
for organization of binders. You will want a calculator, pencils, eraser,
folder paper, and a 3-ringed binder to store papers in order.
VI. ATTENDANCE POLICY
COM-FSM Attendance policy
will be followed strictly. More than 9 absences will mean withdrawal from the
course.
TARDY: My policy towards
students who are late is to count tardiness as partial absences. After 5
minutes it is 0.1 Absence for every 5 minutes late.
Each student must sign the Attendance Sheet at the beginning of each
class period
