I am sure Pohnpei Campus Administration would do anything for the betterment of its school and work. However, every now and then you see Pohnpei Campus employees sitting around, doing nothing. They either sit around outside talking, smoking, or just relaxing while others are busy doing their jobs. Sometimes they even go running around town, doing their own personal errands during working hours. Well, of course this doesn’t apply to all employees, but I know of some who does. Now, sometimes I wonder if our leaders realize this or not. But whether they do or not, I believe Pohnpei Campus should have a time-in and time-out paying system for the betterment of its operations.
The first reason why I believe Pohnpei Campus should have a time-in and time-out paying system for its employees is because I believe we should all be paid fairly. Like the phrase that goes, “what you make is what you get”. I think we all should be paid according to how many hours we work. In other words, if you work 80 hours, you will be paid for the 80 hours you work. On the other hand, if you work only 20 hours, you will be paid just for the 20 hours you work. Now, I know some of us, would not agree with this idea, but I am sure if we follow this paying system, everyone of us will become more honest and responsible at work. With this system, more problems will be solved. Even procrastinators will become hard workers and they will be able to finish their work on time. I remember once a student came in and asked one of the office workers if she had already finished her papers but she said no. Her excuse was that she didn’t have time to do it. Well, I don’t think so. I mean, I saw her a couple of times, sitting around outside talking to other people and smoking. Now, that is what I call a procrastinator. I’m sure she could have finished her work if she didn’t waste her time outside.
The next reason why we should follow such paying system is that our students, our customers and even our visitors will benefit from it. You may ask in what ways. Well, for our students, I believe if we follow this time-in and time-out paying system, every staff and faculty will be here early, or on time every day. That way, if the students need to get help from the office, the library or their teachers, they would have enough time to get things done before class. As a matter of fact, I know of some students who need to use the library in the morning but couldn’t get in because the librarian did not come early. I think this system can help motivate every Pohnpei Campus employees to come to work on time and leave on time. I believe customers and visitors will also appreciate it if we are here whenever they need us. When it comes to doing business with others, it is very important that you are there when your customers need you. Not only will our customers and visitors get satisfied with our service, we will also benefit from it.
Finally, I believe Pohnpei Campus or COMFSM in general will benefit from this system because every employee will become better workmen, and sooner or later, we will see our college flourish into a better one. I’m sure there are a lot of good Pohnpei Campus employees that are putting a lot of effort in pushing our school forward everyday, but imagine how better it will be if everyone puts in the same amount of effort. With this time-in and time-out paying system, I’m sure every employee will want to use their time wisely, and as a result, Pohnpei Campus won’t have to worry about firing or hiring new employees.
To conclude, I would like to restate that Pohnpei Campus should start a time-in and time-out paying system for the betterment of its operation. I’m sure anyone who is genuinely concerned with the improvement of our college will take time out to consider this idea and make it work.
