Class consists of four 45-minute periods and one 45-minute computer class per week.

DESCRIPTION:  ESL/SS095AB emphasizes English vocabulary, concepts, theories, and patterns needed to understand the broad field of college-level Social Studies.  Through the examination of geography, you will develop an essential knowledge of the geographical forms of the earth, its continental and national divisions, and the interactions of its people.  Another part of the course examines the English and concepts of the fields of Social Science.  In addition, the basic outline of human thought and psychological developments related to broad geographic regions is introduced and related to the geography of the world. Map and graphing skills are emphasized in presentations and assignments.  Literature Research methods are introduced.

SUPPLIES: Pen, Pencil, folder paper, 3-ring binder for assignments, calculator, your mind.

OTHER RESOURCES: Videos, Maps, Globes, Encarta, Grolier’s, National Geographic, Atlas of Micronesia, and various Atlases of the World, videos and Pacific community resources.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION will be short lecture, class discussion of directed readings, completion of vocabulary and map exercises, group presentations, directed individual library and computer research, video guides, quizzes and exams.
