  Grading –     Weekly quizzes = 400 points (25 points each)                           

                        Participation     = 200 points  (5 points a day)   A = 900 – 1000 points

                        Assignments     = 200   points                                       B = 800 – 899 points

Mid-term           = 100 points                                        C = 700 – 799 points

                        Final                 = 100 points                                        D = 600 – 699 points

  Attendance – If you miss a class (sickness, funeral, skipping) it is YOUR

           RESPONSIBILITY to find out what work you missed and to complete that

           work. College policy states that after 6 absences you will be withdrawn

           from the class.

  Course Description – This course is designed to improve students’ overall reading

    skills as they are used in the academic setting.

  Course Objectives – By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1)      Identify the introduction, conclusion, and main idea

2)      Identify the style of the text : descriptive, narrative, expository

3)      Answer questions of inference

4)      Define cause/effect, comparison/contrast, summary, paraphrase

5)      Define and correctly use prefixes, suffixes, and root words

6)      Interpret different types of reading : menus, charts, posters, etc
