The attached spreadsheet details the
student-by-student placement for the 422 students who were admitted to
degree programs at the national site. The logic is similar to that used
in the transition plan diagram. Students who placed into the first
course on the entrance test are put into the first course in the new
sequence - MS 095. Students who placed into the second course are put
into the second course for fall at the national site - MS 096.
Students who placed into the third course are put into the third course
for fall at the national site - MS 098.
If a student defers math until spring, then those who placed into the
third course will be put into MS 099. This parallels the logic of the
transition diagram.
Based on performance in MS 096 this fall, adjustments may have to be
made in the math admissions test for spring 2007.
Further adjustments might be necessary for spring 2008 based on results
in the new MS 099 spring 2007.
There may be a period of a couple years of re-refinement of the
mathematics entrance test to optimally place students, this may impact
pass and promotion rates for new freshmen during this time of
transition. At present entrance test data is not tracked by OAR, so
staying on top of this potential impact will be difficult at best. A
table for entrance test data has existed in the database since 1994,
but it is unused and may have been pruned out. In any case there were
only three fields for math and post-2000 the math entrance test had
four fields.
National site advisors will need to be appraised of this new list for
freshmen placement next fall.
