Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts - Special Education
In addition to meeting the program learning outcomes for the AA in Teacher Preparation, student completing the AA program in Liberal Arts- Special Education will be expected to demonstrate the following competencies:
- Demonstrate and use background knowledge in the following areas: handicapping conditions, including aberration in normal growth and development; special education legal requirements - IDEA; FSM and State laws; and the Special Education process (including the IEP process).
- Demonstrate familiarity with a variety of instructional strategies to meet needs of students with disabilities.
- Implement remedial instructional strategies.
Third-Year Teacher Preparation - Special Education
Students completing the proposed Third-year Certificate of Achievement in Teacher Preparation - Special Education will be expected to demonstrate the following competencies in the area of special education;
- Demonstrate use of a variety of instructional strategies to meet needs fo students with disabilities.
- Demonstrate use of, and analyze the results of a variety of assessment instruments and strategies appropriate for use with students with special disabilities.
- Demonstrate ability to implement the IEP process from screening to program implementation and evaluation.
- Develop plans for involving parents and families in the implementation of programs for students with disabilities.
- Develop Curriculum, including appropriate modifications for students with disabilities, in the areas of reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies.
